This weekend, I realized running low on my favorite limited edition eyeshadow from Chantecaille – in the color Baroque. This is the most amazing eyeshadow, both in texture and in color. It’s a duo chrome purple to green shift with the most stunning sheen. It comes in a striking pearl-covered package. I remember buying it when it first came out, and then purchasing a backup, knowing that it was going to be limited edition. And I am so glad I purchased the backup, because it is probably my most used eyeshadow.
Running low in this shadow made me think about limited edition products – both the good and the bad – and some of the ways that I address purchasing these types of items. It used to be that I would immediately purchase anything labeled limited edition from a brand that I was familiar with. I always wanted to make sure that I got it before it sold out. But lately, I’ve been much more selective with the limited edition items I am purchasing, because I have too many limited edition items that just sit in my collection, basically unused. (Looking at you, Hourglass palettes!).
For me to purchase a limited edition item, it has to be:
- A product I will actually use, both in formulation and in color.
- From a brand I know and love. I will almost always purchase limited edition items from Chantecaille, but I probably wouldn’t purchase one from Chanel.
- Be something that is truly special, including the packaging.
Going back to the eyeshadow I was talking about above, I hate it when I find a limited edition product that I truly love, and I know I won’t get it again!
All this being said, here are some limited edition recommendations:
- Chantecaille – not only are their products always wonderful, but their limited edition packaging is second to none.
- Guerlain – especially their limited edition lipsticks that come out in the spring.
- Holiday limited edition sets – these are almost always a great deal with wonderful packaging and products. Just make sure that the set is a value and you will use most/all of the products in the set.
- Sunscreen sets, which usually come in limited edition sizes or kits. Always good, especially if they have a small size for travel!
- Jumbo products – usually hair care or skincare, which can come out as a limited size for an event or sale.
What about you? What are your thoughts on limited edition sets?
PS – As I write this, I’m waiting for shipment of the Chantecaille limited edition Summer 2024 products…
