Up until the past year, I didn’t really buy beauty products that were created by a fashion company, because I didn’t believe that they would be worth the price. However, I have recently found that some of these companies (Gucci, Hermes) have been releasing some amazing beauty products. So when Prada came out with their new line, I decided to give the foundation a try.
And I was wowed!
The new Prada Reveal Skin-Optimizing Refillable Soft Matte Foundation ($70) is really impressive. I honestly wan’t sure I was going to like it because I don’t normally go for matte foundations. However, Prada calls this a “soft matte”, and that describes it very well. It’s a matte that has dimension, so it doesn’t make my skin look flat. And it is a true medium coverage, but it still makes my skin look like skin.
The foundation comes in 40 shades and comes in a beautiful glass pump bottle with a gold Prada-branded collar. And while the bottle looks nice, it is a bit difficult to handle because of the collar. Prada even sells refills so you don’t need to toss out the bottle. The foundation has a medium-thick consistency and does have a slight fragrance that dissipates very quickly. Looking at the shade range, I chose LN10, which is a great match for my skin.
One aspect of the Prada foundation that I noticed immediately is that it takes a bit of time to set. Not too long, but longer than some of my other foundations. However, once it is set, it stays put for hours (8+) without fading or creasing – just beautiful, velvety soft skin. I’ve applied it with both a sponge and the BKBeauty #101 brush and they both work well. I did purchase the foundation brush from Prada to go along with it, and will be sending it back. I don’t like how it feels on my skin, nor do I like how it applies the foundation. It seemed to make it streaky rather than a smooth coverage. But this isn’t a deal breaker since it worked so well with other applicators!
So what about you? Comment if you have or will try this foundation!
