Trying the Viral Wonderskin Lip Stain

November 24, 2025

If you’ve been on any social media platform lately, you’ve seen the viral Wonderskin Wonder Blading All-Day Lip Stain ($22) at least 50 times. It’s everywhere! And you know the one I am talking about. The stain goes on a metallic blue-purple color and is peeled or wiped off after 1 minute, leaving a beautifully stained lip.

I held off purchasing the stain for a while, but finally broke down and bought three colors (Whimsical (warm rose), Lovely (chestnut brown), Romance (cool rose)) during the recent Sephora sale.

After trying the stain for a few days, I have some thoughts. It’s an ok product. I can’t say that it wowed me like I was seeing on social media. Here are the pros and cons of the Wonderskin Lip Stain, so you can make your own decision:

Pros:

  • The stain does last for quite a few hours, and it covers evenly and slowly fades without patchiness.
  • The initial blue-purple color is fun to look at, even if it only stays on for a minute or two.
  • I was able to add a gloss or a balm over the stain after removing the top coat, and it didn’t disturb the stain or make it fade quickly.
  • There is a decent range of shades, from neutrals to pinks to berries.

Cons:

  • There is a smell and a taste to it when it initially goes on. It fades really fast, and I seem to be the only one bothered by it (others don’t experience a smell or taste at all!). But to me, it sort of smells like a sharpie marker.
  • The applicator is difficult to use. It doesn’t bend to the lip shape well, nor does it pick up a lot of product.
  • The product itself isn’t easy to apply. I find that it takes a lot of time and precision to get it even on my lips.
  • It can be a bit drying, so it needs a gloss or a balm on top.
  • It’s a bit expensive for the amount of product required to coat the lips evenly

So overall, it’s a ok product. And while I definitely won’t buy any other colors, I won’t be returning these, either. I’ll keep them and add them to my extremely large collection of lip products.

Trying Wonderskin has put me on the hunt for a really good lip stain. I’m going to try out the one from Clarins and the one from Peripera. I’ll let you know what I think!

Have you tried the Wonderskin lip stain? What do you think? And did you experience a bad smell or taste with them, or is it just me?
